What is ASTM certification?
ASTM International is an independent organization that sets safety standards for many products, including baby furniture. When a crib is ASTM certified, it has been independently tested to meet strict requirements for things like slat spacing, structural strength, and hardware safety. In short, it's an outside stamp of approval that the crib was built to a recognized safety standard. Every crib we carry at InnaNest is ASTM certified.
Why it matters
A crib is where your baby will spend more hours than anywhere else in the home, often unsupervised while sleeping. Certified cribs reduce the risk of common hazards — such as gaps that could trap a limb, or rails that aren't strong enough. Buying certified takes the guesswork out of one of the most important purchases you'll make.
A simple crib-safety checklist
Use the mattress that fits snugly — you shouldn't be able to fit more than two fingers between the mattress and the crib side. A firm, well-fitting mattress like our Poly Foam Crib Mattress or Coil Crib Mattress is key.
Keep the crib bare: no pillows, blankets, bumpers, or soft toys for babies under 12 months. Set the mattress at the lowest safe height once your baby can pull up. Check that all hardware is tight every few weeks. And place the crib away from windows, cords, and curtains.
